Reach Out For Help or Reach Out To Help

Your support for H.E.L.L.P. and our May 2, 2020 Inaugural Event will help raise money for the educational and training programs we will be implementing. Our goal is to begin with our community healthcare systems in Collier County with intentions of eventually partnering with and expanding to our neighboring counties.

WHAT?

Providing education/training to social workers, on staff health professionals, employers and employees when appropriate. Educating on how to identify those who may be “at risk” for rapid emotional decline and/or self harm, and/or harm to others, and what to do.

WHY?

To help identify those who might be struggling at home, at work and are feeling ALONE and ISOLATED in their depression. They are afraid to seek help because of fear of losing their job, fear of embarrassment, fear of being hospitalized - among other reasons.

HOW?

By combining efforts with other mental health organizations to assist with putting together mental health educational programs. These would be adjusted to fit different groups according to levels of interaction and necessity.

This is already happening in the CCPS, eventually the city is expanding the mental health awareness programs to the community

After IRMA and the PARKLAND SCHOOL shootings happened, in Collier County:

  • More than $1 million was spent to add seven psychologists and eight social workers to the district’s mental health staff, for a total of 31 psychologists and 16 social workers.

  • Mental health employees were given school crisis intervention and trauma care training, at a total cost of $25,000.

  • And teachers were given training in suicide prevention and youth mental health assistance.

The district’s new focus on mental health included several social emotional learning initiatives.

LONELINESS: These include the installation of “buddy benches” where elementary students can find designated peers to play with

ISOLATION: “We Dine Together” program that encourages students in leadership roles to engage with their classmates who eat lunch alone or appear isolated.
